History of tacos

While there is no definite answer as to how tacos were first created, many believe it was an adaptation of the indigenous practice of wrapping food in tortillas.
The earliest known recipe for tacos dates all the way back to 16th century Mexico when it was referred to as “tlahco”. This early version consisted of small tortillas filled with dried fish or meat and then folded shut. Over the years, more fillings became available including beans, vegetables, cheese and even eggs! Eventually these tasty treats became so popular that restaurants started serving them up in larger sizes so people could enjoy even more filling.
